What is Echeveria ‘Lime n’ Chile’?

Echeveria ‘Lime n’ Chile’ is a hybrid plant with complex parentage. ‘Lime n’ Chile’ is a cultivar name and all ‘Lime n’ Chile’ plants have identical genetics. Echeveria are succulents in the family Crassulaceae, also known as the stonecrop family. The stonecrop family features many other succulents. Echeveria make fantastic indoor plants that enjoy sun filled windows and delight their owners with their beautiful multicolored leaves.

‘Lime n’ Chile’ has a unique leaf color for an Echeveria in that its leaves are a distinct lime green color. Most echeveria have a thick coating of epicuticular wax on their leaves called a farina that gives the leaves a distinct powdery blue coloration to them. This farina pairs with the underlying color of the leaves which vary from green to red to even purple producing the complex and unique colors found on many Echeveria. ‘Lime n’ Chile’ has a much thinner layer of this wax that is compounded by the leaves keeping a strong green coloration without much red allowing its leaves to have a consistent lime green coloration to them.

Echeveria enjoy bright indirect light, with full sun exposure causing the leaves to burn. Echeveria also gain more dramatic coloration in brighter light, often developing a red coloration to the ends of the leaves. ‘Lime n’ Chile’ benefits from indirect light as it aids in keeping the dramatic green coloration to the leaves. If exposed to light that is too bright ‘Lime n’ Chile’ may develop red leaf tips, if the coloration is not desired move the plant to less bright conditions. If not enough light is provided, Echeveria will produce elongated lanky growth that faces the light source.

Water CareWater Care

Echeveria prefer to be watered sparingly. Echeveria are also tolerant to inconsistent watering and will recover even after long periods of time without water. It is recommended that you water Echeveria ‘Lime n’ Chile’ lightly once a week and reduce watering to once a month in wintertime. Make sure to allow the soil to fully dry between waterings and to never let the soil become waterlogged as Echeveria are prone to root rot, generally air on the side of underwatering then overwatering. If you consistently have wrinkly shrunken leaves, it is likely that only then your Echeveria needs to be watered more.

Echeveria ‘Lime n’ Chile’ does not require fertilizer but the use of fertilizer may increase the rate of growth and bring the plant to bloom sooner. Slow release fertilizer pallets are ideal for Echeveria and will lightly fertilize the plant each time that you water. Echeveria ‘Lime n’ Chile’ will maintain its distinct green leaves through most conditions and fertilizer may increase the depth and darken the green color. Liquid fertilizer may also be used and is best to be reduced to about ¼ the recommended strength to prevent the roots from receiving chemical burns.
