What is the Corn Plant?
The Dracaena Fragrans, also referred to as the “Corn” or “Cornstalk Plant,” gets its name from its leaves’ strong resemblance to corn stalks. It is characterized by its thick, sturdy stem and long, bright green leaves.
This plant does not require much in the way of daily care, and as a result, it is a great succulent for those just getting acquainted with houseplants. Simply place it somewhere in your home that meets its needs, and watch as it grows with little to no assistance!
Light Care
The Fragrant Dracaena prefers bright, indirect light. Under these conditions, the plant is able to best grow without risking its vibrant colors. When exposed to bright, direct light for a long period of time, it could experience burning that dulls the color of its leaves.
Similarly, receiving too little light could result in your plant’s growth being stunted, and in some cases, it could even die. Make sure to place your Fragrant Dracaena in a space that enjoys consistent, indirect light.
Water Care
Water your Fragrant Dracaena on a biweekly basis. This plant does not require much water in order to grow, so a biweekly regimen allows you to provide it with sustenance without running the risk of overwatering. Make sure to water evenly, moisturizing as much of the soil as possible.
To check the water levels of your plant’s soil, place a water meter a few inches into the soil, where it will give you an accurate indication. If you do not own a water meter, stick one finger knuckle-deep into the soil. At this depth, you will be able to accurately account for the soil’s level of moistness.

For optimal growth and development, provide your Fragrant Dracaena with well-draining potting soil. In doing this, your plant will be provided with a source of helpful minerals and can avoid the harmful effects of stagnant water.
During the growing season, fertilize your plant sparingly, only once or twice. The Fragrant Dracaena grows well with water alone, and many experts recommend avoiding fertilizer altogether. If you feel like giving your plant an extra boost, make sure to use fertilizer that does not include flouride, as this could cause harm.
