What is the Parlor Palm plant?
The Chamaedorea Elegans, which is better known as the “Neantha Bella Palm” or the “Parlor Palm,” is a type of tropical plant most commonly found in Central America. Its long, sturdy stems and thin, bladelike leaves have made this an especially popular succulent. People of all different experience levels are obsessed with this plant, and for good reason!
Along with offering a beautifully minimalistic aesthetic, these natural wonders are exceptionally self-sustaining. They are able to grow well in all sorts of environments, and are naturally able to safeguard against unfavorable conditions.
Light Care
Parlor Palms prefer areas of your home that will provide it with a consistent source of shaded light. This can be achieved by keeping your plant away from windows and entryways. You can also place it near your windows if there is a curtain to block out much of the direct sunlight.
Parlor Palms are native to regions of Central America that do not allow for much direct sunlight, instead providing the plant with a shaded environment. If your Parlor Palm is exposed to too much direct sunlight, it can become burned, lose its vibrant color and see its growth stunted.
Water Care
Water your Parlor Palm on a weekly basis, and make sure that the water is evenly dispersed across the soil. The last thing that you want is for water to pool up in your soil and damage your plant’s roots. Reduce the frequency of your watering sessions during the Winter, and remember that with this plant, it is better to under-water than to over-water.
To check the water levels of your plant’s soil, place a water meter in the soil, where it will give you an accurate indication. If you do not own a water meter, stick one finger knuckle-deep into the soil. At this depth, you will be able to accurately account for the soil’s level of moistness.
Food Guide
The Parlor Palm is not a picky plant, so any potting mixture that drains well and provides its roots with much-needed nutrients will work perfectly well. To encourage even more efficient draining, consider adding peat moss and other similarly beneficial materials to the mixture.
